This book was recommended to me by a breeder friend and I found it very valuable. The second half of the book contains a plethora of useful information about training dogs to work with livestock.

In my opinion the first half of the book, which contains information about the type of dog that would make a good farm dog was less by: 5. Barney the Farm Dog: A True Story Paperback – by Mary Lynn Swiderski (Author) out of 5 stars 3 ratings.

Spot visits a farm and talks to various animals, sometimes helping with chores. The animals are cute and fun for kids to look at, and there is some subtle humor like the "Spot doesn't tell" when the cat says her job is to catch mice and one scurries by without her noticing/5.

This delightful farm dog charms readers; Ragweed himself is endearing as a scruffy b&w dog with saucer eyes, a long snout, and two front teeth. The bright colors, large brushstrokes, and wary animals in the author’s illustrations complement Ragweed’s happy-go-lucky daily schedule.

Readers will chuckle their way through these farm dog rules.5/5(56). Discover the best Children's Farm Animal Books in Best Sellers. Find the top most popular items in Amazon Books Best Sellers. Me My Dogs Your Plan Checkout. Special offer. 20% off your trial.

This introduction to the life of a working farm dog focuses on a day in the life of a border collie named Cadi. The Baker family lives on a farm with livestock including cows, turkeys, goats, pigs, ducks, chickens, and rabbits.

From New York Times bestselling author Jon Katz comes a moving and powerful novel, the first one inspired by life on his celebrated Bedlam Farm and perceptively told from the point of view of Rose, a dedicated working dog.

Rose is determined and focused, keeping the sheep out of danger and protecting the other creatures on the farm she calls home.4/5(). They're first unleashed on Animal Farm right after Snowball has wowed everyone with his flashy speech. But Snowball doesn't get to bask in his glory for long: Napoleon lets out a whistle, and "there was a terrible baying sound outside, and nine enormous dogs, wearing brass-studded collars came bounding into the barn" ().

The setting is Kent in the early years of WW II. The marriage took place on their farm in New York. The Brooklyn sportswriter named Emma Span is the daughter of Jon Katz from his first wife.

One of the initial novels written by author Jon Katz about the relationship between the dogs and humans was titled A Dog Year: 12 Months, 4 Dogs, and Me’. This is the best book ever for anyone who wants to train their herding dog. He goes into the psychology of the border collie, or heeler & teaches us why everyone says their dog does the opposite thing they want the dog to do.

It is because we need to become the lead sheep & not the herder any longer/5(3). Farm dogs may have lacked recognition by scholars in the past but they have rarely been undervalued by those who work them.

Some old breeds of farm dog have lost their working role and unfortunately died out. This book covers the dogs used by farmers in the United Kingdom, in Europe and in former colonies.1 day ago  Work Like a Dog Day (Aug.
